“Here I am with your Corellian boys, Crev and Crix Iblis, Jedi Masters, and sons of the Hero of Corellia, Jedi Master Thel Iblis,” the journalist, Pavek Drayson, enthusiastically proclaimed to the hovering HoloCam.
The twin Jedi Masters smiled and bowed toward Pavek. “So, Masters Iblis, what can you tell the folks back home about the Liberation of Taanab from the clutches of the evil Sith Empire?” he inquired as he shoved his hand held microphone between the two Corellian Jedi.
Crev began. “As I’m sure your viewers know, Taanab is a planet of agriculture. The farmers here have been slaving away, forced under the yoke of the Sith Empire to provide food for a large part of their war effort. Not only will our liberation of this planet save these poor farmers from losing a majority of their crops, but the Republic will also be able to provide a fair price for all of their provisions to the Galactic Liberation Army!”
“Every day we’re closer to freeing this planet, and with this planet’s freedom comes another step toward eradicating the Sith menace from the galaxy!” Crix continued.
“You heard it here folks!” Pavek snatched the microphone back toward himself. “Our Corellian Boys are determined to free these poor farmers from Sith oppression. Don’t forget to check in with Corellian Galactic News for all your frontline information. It’s the only channel on the HoloNet to provide the most up to date coverage on the warfront. Until next time, I’m Pavek Drayson, for Corellian Galactic News, and FOR THE REPUBLIC!”
Cheers accompanied his final words as he turned off the floating HoloCam. “Thanks guys,” Pavek spoke a little less enthusiastically to the Jedi.
“It was our pleasure,” Crix returned, his smile somewhat faded compared to the one he had held in the interview.
“Gotta make sure the kids at home know how the fight for freedom goes,” Crev inserted.
The two Jedi then turned and left Pavek, who had already turned his attention toward a datapad, editing the interview he had just performed. It had to be up in fifteen minutes, or else his producer was going to be pissed with him. He was the best field journalist from Corellia, and damn sure wasn’t going to ruin his reputation by missing a deadline.
Not many journalists had the chance to interview the Iblis twins on a whim, but then again Pavek Drayson wasn’t just some journalist. His in depth interviews with Grandmaster Ryden Kantos alone had won him more awards than all of the journalists in Coronet combined. Anyone in the Republic who wanted to see how the war was going turned to his broadcasts.
Taanab was his masterpiece. The human farmers here would undoubtedly welcome the Republic with open arms. Their freedom from the shackles of Sith oppression would not only help the Republic immensely, both by cutting off a large portion of Sith agriculture supply and adding it to their war supply, but would be just the morale booster they needed. Ever since the fall of Kashyyyk the Republic had been on the defensive. People back home were getting worried. They needed this victory.
Pavek finished his editing, sending the best parts of the interview to his producer, who would air it on the HoloNet during Corellian primetime in a few standard hours. He began to pack his things away when he heard shouting outside.
He quickly reactivated his floating HoloCam and rushed outside to see what the commotion was all about. As he exited the portable shelter he was housed in, he saw Republic troops rushing to gather armor and weapons. In the distance he heard blasterfire. The ground shook as bombs collided with the portable shields arched over the camp.
“What’s going on?” Pavek stopped the closest trooper, who had a blaster rifle in hand.
“The Imps are launching a heavy counterattack. They just broke through our atmospheric defenses!”
The soldier then took off running, rushing to join his brigade to repel the ground forces. Pavek smiled as he rushed back inside his tent. Forget the interview, he thought to himself as he gathered his recording gear, a live battle with the Imps ought to boost viewer numbers tenfold!
He ran back outside, swinging his pack on his shoulder, turning on his handheld camera, and merged into the rush of soldiers headed for the front lines. As he filmed the rush of men, his HoloCam floated near him, recording the journalist’s every move. A loud strain followed by an electric crack echoed through the camp, as the shield generator ground to a halt, and the blue dome above the camp disintegrated.
