Name: Ryth Katarn (sur-name from her adopted family on Corellia)
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Species: Human
Homeworld: Coruscant
Alignment:
Independent; closest faction alignment: smuggler, though she operates as a free agent.
Occupation:
A little of this, a little of that, but in general, nothing terrible illegal. Ryth makes most her living by selling weapons and goods of questionable origin to the republic and Jedi. Though she has been know to do a bit of treasure hunting in her time.
Personality:
Intuitive and quick thinking, Ryth is a creature of reaction. Despite this, she is calculating, analytical, and very capable in all things mechanical. More than being smart, Ryth is creative. She takes great pleasure in doing a great number of creative tasks, though her favorite is working on her ship Mav’oor.
Ryth suffers from insatiable wander-lust. It is this need to roam that has led to her love of ships, which, to her, represent freedom. Above any object, freedom is the most important commodity in existence. Beyond freedom, nothing is more dear to Ryth than her ship.
Appearance:
Sharp features paired with a slender frame, Ryth is the kind of girl that most every man would love to have for his own. She keeps her brown hair in a short pixie-cut to keep it out of her face, which is shown off exceptionally well as a result. Her cream skin holds only the slightest tan and is soft without being delicate. As lovely as her body and face are, the crowning feature is Ryth’s pair of blazingly bright emerald eyes. Statistically speaking she stands at 158 cm and weighs 50 kg.
Weapons:
A ELG-3A blaster pistol and vibro-knife that she keeps hidden on her person at all times. Depending on the mission, she is trained to use sniper rifles and will carry one as needed.
Armor/Clothing:
Ryth’s attire consists of dark brown mechanic pants, held up by a brown leather belt, with a great number of obvious pockets and quite a few more hidden ones that she has sewn in herself, a dark blue shirt, that she keeps tucked into her pants, featuring elbow length sleeves, and a brown leather vest which also has numerous hidden pockets amid the obvious ones.
Ryth has a personal body shield device in one of the pant’s hidden pockets that is activated by Ryth’s natural force impulses when in danger. The device extends a form fitting shield around her body that is completely translucent save for the tiniest shimmer when it actively deflects or absorbs fire. The shield will only take one or two shots from a standard blaster rifle, but it recharges very quickly and is ready to absorb/ deflect another shot in three to five seconds. The shield’s relative fragileness means that, while it will absorb a shot or two of fire from a blaster rifle, it will not completely deflect larger or more forceful projectiles. The shield will absorb and deflect as much firepower as it is capable of but Ryth knows that an explosion from a thermal detonator or rocket launcher would still very much kill her dead. The shield, because of how it is designed, absorbs energy while deflecting mass. This means that the energy from a blaster shot is absorbed to give the shield further resilience while the mass is deflected. The most curious side effect of this construction is the very strong ability of the shield to absorb electricity. As a result, stun guns and other similar devices are very ineffectual. Ryth theorizes that sith lightning will also be ineffective, but hasn’t wanted to test the hypothesis. Due to its very fast shield regeneration speed, and ability to activate without intentional direction, this device has saved Ryth from numerous encounters that should have resulted in her death and has earned her a reputation within certain smuggling rings as the luckiest rogue in the galaxy.
Vehicle:
Mav’oor: A heavily modified ship based on the J-type star skiff designs once built on the planet Naboo. The ship is painted a black but the colour has dulled with time. It features one hidden laser turret on the underside, but not the two top mounted featured on the Naboo Star Skiff. The ship has a series of hidden compartments, as well a great deal more space than would be expected. A hidden compartment near the cockpit serves as a private living chamber and sanctuary for Ryth, while the standard living chambers have been converted into additional storage. Because of the nature of Ryth's work, the ship has been fitted with a stealth system that makes it nearly invisible to most scanning systems. Even most superior military scanners will pick her up as some form of anomaly, rather than an actual vessel.
Ryth has redesigned the entire cockpit and control system to meet her personal preferences, including a start mechanism that can only be activated through manipulation of the force. The whole redesign of the controls to require the force and an intimate knowledge of the ship and Ryth was put in place to make the Mav’oor next to impossible to steal or pilot by any but Ryth. To this day nobody but Ryth has ever flown her ship. Mav’oor is Ryth’s baby, and she has spent years fixing him up; Ryth has described him as “the only man she needs in her life.”
History:
Ryth was born on Coruscant to the family of a Sith pilot. The day before Ryth’s fourth birthday, her mother, Calistia, ran away with Ryth in the hopes of saving her from the Sith. Ryth ended up on a pirate vessel where she stayed for about five years before being left in the dangerous space port of Mos Eisley. It was in Mos Eisley, that she was found by the Jedi Kurs Janta who would take her to a family on Corellia.
Ryth stayed on Corellia until she was sixteen and received Mav’oor, a starship built on Naboo for the Katarn family. It was at this point that she went out into the galaxy to find her purpose, and the Jedi who had saved her on Tatooine. It took her slightly over a year before she tracked Kurs down. The two spent some time working together before events lead Ryth to leave Kurs. The two didn’t talk or see each other for almost a year before coming back into contact on the planet of Manaan. Over the next five years the two kept in regular contact though they decided against working together for any length of time. Ryth had a business to run and Kurs had Jedi business to tend to.
